The Alco 308 bullets ULD specification includes a rebated boattail design instead of the standard boat tail for about 15% gain in accuracy by reducing muzzle-blast-induced dispersion. All these elements ensure our 30 cal precision bullets give target shooters and hunters an edge like no other in the field. Alco Bullet Design Advantage – Rebated Boattail (RBT)

This adds another step or two on our production line which we feel is well worth the time. Rebated Boattail features:

• Rebate Shape – The bottom of the 308 bullet is tapered (smaller) allowing for reduced air drag and helps with velocity over long distances. This is the “rebate” that distinguishes it from a regular boat-tail bullet, which typically has more continuous tapering. The base helps ensure that the bullet engages more smoothly with the rifling in the barrel, reducing deformation and contributing to better shot-to-shot consistency.
• Improved Ballistics and Less Drag – The RBT step reduces drag by minimizing the turbulent wake behind the bullet to help retain energy and stability over greater distances compared to a regular bullet. It helps improve the transition from the bullet to the rifling in the barrel, enhancing accuracy. The RBT reduces the drag at the rear end of the bullet as it moves through the air which leads to improved flight efficiency and extended range.
• Improved Stability and Accuracy – The RBTs offer better flight stability compared to non-tapered or less aerodynamically optimized bullets which translates to higher accuracy, particularly over long ranges, where wind resistance and other environmental factors are more pronounced.
• Compatibility with Rifling – The rebated base helps ensure that the bullet engages more smoothly with the rifling in the barrel, reducing deformation and contributing to better shot-to-shot consistency

The Alco machined tips which enhance the pinpoint precision and range come off upon impact. On impact the tip separates from the lead causing devastating terminal ballistics when hunting game. The bullet basically becomes a hollow point which opens up and dumps all its energy into the cavity allowing for significant expansion to take down game humanely. The cores are composed of a swaged soft 100% lead which also helps with expansion. They are not a steel core bullet. Flat Base Bullets, Custom Order – Flat Base is available by request in the same weights for the same price as the rebated boattails. These normally take a few days to produce.
